Team India Women created history at the Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan by securing back-to-back gold medals in the women’s cricket competition. The triumphant Women in Blue made everyone proud by bagging the nation’s first Gold medal in the 2026 Asian Games. After winning the gold medal at the Hangzhou Asian Games in 2022, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side successfully defended the title with a dominating display on the field.

India started their Asian Games 2026 campaign with a clinical 8-wicket win against Japan in the quarter-final. After opting to bowl first, India reduced Japan to 57 in the first innings and chased down the target inside the powerplay. Sree Charani claimed a four-wicket haul and Shafali Verma wrapped the chase in style, scoring an unbeaten 40 off just 15 deliveries.

In the semi-final fixture against Bangladesh, it was Shafali Verma once again with an exemplary knock that powered India to the Final. The Team India opener smashed her maiden T20I century off just 49 deliveries and guided India to 195/4 in the first innings. India cruised to the final after Bangladesh were all out for just 81, courtesy of three-wicket hauls from Nandni Sharma and Deepti Sharma.

India met Sri Lanka in the summit clash, in the Gold medal event of the competition. After electing to bat first, India repeated the heroics of the Women’s Asia Cup 2026 Final by putting a formidable performance with the bat against the same finalists. Vice-captain Smriti Mandhana scored a spectacular 79 off just 45 deliveries and put India in a commanding position against Sri Lanka in the final. Smriti Mandhana also became the first batter to reach the landmark of 11,000 international runs in women’s cricket as Team India set a mighty target of 217 for Sri Lanka. The spinners carried India’s momentum forward and put on a skilful economical show with the ball as Sri Lanka were all out for 69. India secured Gold medal with a comprehensive 147-run win. Opener Shafali Verma became the leading run-getter of the tournament, scoring 188 runs in three innings while Sree Charani topped the wicket-taking charts, scalping 8 wickets in three matches.
