It was a record-breaking night for Team India opening batter Abhishek Sharma during the third and final T20I between Afghanistan and India in the Friendship Cup 2026 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. Abhishek’s jaw-dropping innings of 108(34) that included nine fours and 11 sixes saw him scale new heights in his T20I career.

Abhishek went into the third T20I already in fine form, having scored 121 runs in the first two matches, including a 32-ball 82 in the first T20I on September 13. The 26-year-old southpaw from Punjab thus ended the series with 229 runs from 3 matches, with an average of 76.33 and a strike-rate of 269.41, including 22 sixes throughout the series. He bagged the Player of the Series award to go along with the Player of the Match award for his scintillating century in the third T20I.

• Abhishek Sharma’s century, scored in just 30 balls, is the fastest by an Indian batter in T20Is. He broke the previous record held by former Team India Captain Rohit Sharma, who scored a 35-ball hundred against Sri Lanka at the Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore, on 22 December 2017.

• Abhishek’s 30-ball ton is the fastest century by a batter against a Test playing nation in T20Is.

• It is also the third fastest hundred overall in T20 Internationals, behind Sahil Chauhan’s 27-ball ton for Estonia against Cyprus in 2024, and Muhammad Fahad’s 29-ball hundred for Turkey against Bulgaria in 2025.

• Abhishek now holds the first and second positions on the list of most sixes hit in a T20I innings for India. His 11 sixes against Afghanistan on Thursday sit just behind his 13 sixes against England in Mumbai in February last year.
