Skipper Priyam Garg led from the front as India Under-19 defeated South Africa Under-19 in their first Youth One-Day International (ODI) Quadrangular at the Chatsworth Stadium in Durban on Friday.
After electing to bat, India Under-19 lost two wickets early as Mondli Khumalo dismissed Yashasvi Jaiswal and Divyaansh Saxena. However, N Tilak Varma and Garg steadied the innings, putting up a 91-run partnership before the former got out for 42.
Dhruv Jurel then joined forces with Garg as the two added 104-run stand. The partnership was broken when Garg, after scoring 110 off 103 with the help of 9 fours and 2 sixes, was dismissed by Achille Cloete in the 45th over.
Jurel, who scored 65 off 74, made sure India Under-19 get closer to 270-run mark.
South Africa Under-19 were on track, having reached 83 for the loss of a wicket. They lost three wickets in the space of 15 runs as Sushant Mishra, who had the match figures of 4/48, derailed the chase.
While Bryan Parsons scored 57, it was not enough as India Under-19 restricted South Africa Under-19 to 198/9 to secure a 66-run win.
India Under-19 will next face Zimbabwe-19 on Sunday.
