India U19 beat SA U19 in first Youth ODI

India Under-19 kicked off their South Africa tour on a bright note as they defeated hosts by nine wickets in the first Youth ODI at the Buffalo Park in East London on Thursday to take 1-0 lead in the series.

After electing to bat, South Africa Under-19 could only score 187, with Luke Beaufort scoring 64. While opener Andrew Louw and Jack Lees got the starts, they could not convert them into a big score.

For India Under-19, the bowlers shared the spoils. Ravi Bishnoi scalped three wickets while Kartik Tyagi, Shubhang Hegde and Atharva Ankolekar picked up two wickets each to bowl South Africa Under-19 out in 48.3 overs.

The Indian side then chased down the target with ease as the openers – Divyaansh Saxena and N Tilak Varma – put up a 127-run stand.

While the latter got out for 59, Saxena, who scored an unbeaten 86 with the help of 11 fours, and Kumar Kushagra, who scored 43 not out, helped India Under-19 seal a win with a 7.3 overs to spare.

The second match of the series will be played on Saturday.
