Bengal defeat Gujarat to win Men’s Under-23 One-Day Trophy

Bowlers came to the party as Bengal defeated Gujarat by 64 runs to win the Mens Under-23 One Day Trophy in Dehradun on Sunday.

Put in to bat, Bengal scored 257/8 on the back of Sudip Kumar Gharami and Ranjot Singh Kharia fifties. Skipper Kazi Junaid Saifi, meanwhile, chipped in with 45 off 57 balls.

Bengal enjoyed a solid start as the openers – Gharami and Ankur Paul – put up a 70-run stand. But the two got out in the space of 15 runs.

Saifi and Kharia, who scored 52 off 65 balls, added 88 runs before YD Gardharia dismissed Saifi in the 38th over.

While Kathan D Patel ran through Bengal’s middle-order, Akash Deep’s quickfire 30 off 16 balls helped Bengal cross 250-run mark.

For Gujarat, Kathan D Patel scalped four wickets while Gardharia picked up three wickets.

Needing 258 runs to win, Gujarat enjoyed a solid opening start as Urvil Patel and Kathan D Patel put up a 107-run stand in 20.4 overs.

However, Gujarat’s innings collapsed from thereon as Bengal struck thrice in quick succession.

While Urvil Patel tried to hold things together with 76 off 93 balls, Pradipta Pramanik and A Mishra scalped three wickets each as Bengal bowled out Gujarat for 193 to win the final.
