Indian cricket has always been bestowed with great batting talents. Some stylish, some aggressive and some who purely go by the textbook. Despite the rich legacy, only Virender Sehwag could breach the 300-run figure mark in Test cricket. The search for another triple centurion ended when Karnataka's Karun Nair rewrote history books in just his third Test for India.

It was only his third innings, and Nair, who got his maiden century against England at M. A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai carried on to become the second player from India to score a triple century. He became just the third player – after Bob Simpson and Sir Garfield Sobers – to convert a maiden Test hundred into a triple century. His 303 not out in the fifth Test powered India to a mammoth 759/7 after England had posted 477 in the first innings.
