India A Women post second successive win

Anuja Patil-led team take 2-0 lead against over Bangladesh ‘A’ Women

With a five-wicket win in the second game, the India A Women’s team took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match one-day series against Bangladesh A. The Anuja Patil-led team chased down the 196-run target with 11 balls to spare in Hubli.

Chasing a modest target, Vanitha VR was trapped lbw for 42 by Salma Khatun leaving the team on 50 for one. While she had done the bulk of the scoring, her opening partner S Meghana had held the other end up to help lay a foundation for the innings. However, six runs later, Meghana too returned to the pavilion; caught by Panna Gosh off KT Kubra for 14 (off 34).

NM Chaudhary and Neha Tanwar then forged a partnership to keep the chase on course. Scoring at a steady pace, the duo added 105 runs for the third wicket to tip the balance in the hosts favour. With the team on 161 and comfortably inching towards the target, Tanwar was run out. Having done the hard yards, the middle-order batswoman missed out on a well-deserved half-century by six runs. In the next over Chaudhary too was run out leaving the side on 162 for four. Jemimah R then joined her captain in taking the innings to finish line, but with 11 runs still required the young batter returned to the pavilion for 10.

Patil (18*) then took the team to victory with Nuzhat Parween.

Earlier, once Bangladesh ‘A’ opted to bat, Sukanya Parida dealt the first blow with 11 runs on the board. While pacer trapped Mst Sarmin Sultana lbw for seven; 26 runs later Murshida Khatun was run out by Patil leaving the visitors on 37 for two. Shivangi Raj struck a bit later to leave Bangladesh ‘A’ on 59 for three with the wicket of Fargana Hoque.

Rumana Ahmed then joined Lata Mondol in building the Bangladesh A innings. The batters kept the Indian bowlers at bay as they shaped the innings. The duo added 107 runs for the fourth wicket in an effort to set the hosts a respectable target. However, as they looked to add quick runs to the tally, their flourishing partnership ended with Mondol being run out 71 (off 120 balls) leaving the side on 166 for four with 35 balls left in their quota of overs. Nigar Sultana Joy, who had replaced her in the middle was sent back by Patil a bit later leaving the visitors on 175 for five. Rumana, who had been scoring at a brisk pace was run out for 65 (off 83) in the penultimate over. Shaila Sharmin (14* off 18) and Jahanara Alam then took the side to 195 for seven in their stipulated overs. Alam was run out off the last ball of the innings for two.
