Vivo retains IPL sponsorship for the next five years

The premium global smartphone manufacturer bid Rs. 2199 crores, which is a 554% increase over the previous contract.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) today announced its association with Vivo as the title sponsor for the Indian Premier League for the next five years. The premium global smartphone manufacturer bid Rs. 2199 crores, which is a 554% increase over the previous contract.

In the upcoming five IPL seasons (2018 - 2022), Vivo and IPL will have extensive cooperation in terms of sports events, on-ground activations and marketing campaigns.

Speaking on the development, Chairman of the IPL, Mr. Rajeev Shukla said, “We are delighted to have Vivo joining us once again as the title sponsor for IPL for next five years. The association with Vivo has been great for the past two seasons and I am sure they will continue to make it bigger and better.”

Acting President of the BCCI, Mr. CK Khanna said, “Vivo as a brand has carved its niche and legacy in the market. We are extremely glad to have Vivo as the title sponsor and look forward to an enriching affiliation for both stakeholders.”

Acting Secretary of the BCCI, Mr. Amitabh Choudhary said, “We received an overwhelming response for the title sponsorship rights and we are glad to have Vivo back on board. It is a renewal of a fruitful relationship with the brand that will extend for the next five years.”

Formation of Special Committee

In terms of the decision taken in the Special General Meeting held at the Cricket Centre, Mumbai on June 26, 2017 with regard to the issues relating to the implementation of the judgment of the Hon'ble Supreme Court dated July 18, 2016, the undersigned is pleased to announce the following seven-member committee to identify the few critical points in respect of the said judgement for the General Body of the BCCI to consider before its submission to the Hon’ble Supreme Court.

The members of the committee are as follows:

In view of the fact that the next date of hearing in the matter is fixed for July 14, 2017, the committee is requested to fix an early date for its meeting in order to ensure that the above task is undertaken with utmost urgency and its written report circulated by July 10, 2017 so that the same may be considered by the General Body and finalized prior to the above hearing.

The BCCI Acting President, Mr. C.K. Khanna will be apprised on a regular basis on the deliberations of the committee and the report shall finally be submitted to him to present it to the General Body.
