Atitkar ton propels Maharashtra

Sangram Atitkar strengthened Maharashtra’s position with a 168-run knock against Bengal in Indore. Meanwhile, in Mohali, Vinay Kumar claimed a fiver for Karnataka against Punjab in the other semi-final.

Here is the round-up for the day:

Bengal vs Maharashtra: Bengal were trailing by 325 runs with nine wickets in hand in the second innings at stumps on Day 2. Samad Fallah removed KB Gosh to leave Bengal on 16 for one with Arindam Das on seven at the end of day’s play.

Earlier, Sangram Atitkar powered Maharashtra to a 341-run lead with a century in the first innings. Resuming on 164 for four on Sunday morning, Maharashtra went on to post a mammoth first-innings total of 455, before being bowled out late on the second day. Apart from Atitkar’s massive score, Ankit Bawne contributed 89, while Anupam Sanklecha added 52 runs lower down the order.

Karnataka vs Punjab: Karnataka were trailing by 231 runs at the end of day’s play against Punjab. When play was called off, Robin Uthappa was batting on 25 with Manish Pandey on eight.

Earlier, after a washed out first Day 1, Punjab scored 270 after being asked to bat first at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium. Manan Vohra and Jiwanjot Singh put together an 85-run open standing, before the latter was sent back for 51. Jiwanjot went on to make 74, while Yuvraj Singh made 42. But the rest of the line-up failed to contribute as Vinay Kumar ran through the middle order. The Karnataka captain claimed five for 27 and was ably supported by S Gopal who took three wickets. Ronit More and Amit Verma picked a wicket each.

In response, Karnataka were 39 for two at stumps. They lost Lokesh Rahul and Mayank Agarwal with 23 runs on the board.
