Report: Ind U-19 vs SA U-19
India Under-19 lost to South Africa Under-19 by 10 runs in the ongoing Quadrangular series at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. Chasing 258, the lower-order capitulation cost the hosts the game despite a century by skipper Vijay Zol.
Earlier, after being invited to bat first, half-centuries by opener Clyde Fortuin and middle-order bat Yaseen Valli, helped the South African colts raise 257 for six in their 50 overs. Aamit Gani gave the home team their first breakthrough in the 25th over by sending back Aiden Markram for 25, ending the opening stand for 83-run. SA U-19 then continued to steadily build on the opening stand with useful contributions. A while later after Sarfaraz Khan caught Jason Smith off his own bowling, while Deepak Hooda followed up with the wicket of the opener for 65.
Valli though continued to anchor the innings and took the team to 246, until he was run-out for 64 with five balls left in the innings. The visitors then added one run to the total to finish on 257 for six.
Although India U-19 opener Akhil Herwadkar was out for a duck, skipper Vijay Zol held together the innings with a 115-ball 103 taking the team to 215 before departing in the 44th over. Kagiso Rabada claimed the fifth Indian colts’ wicket by sending back their skipper; he also picked Hooda and Gani a bit later. And Justin Dill had dismissed Herwadkar removed Khan. Meanwhile Andile Phehlukwayo who had removed Ricky Bhui earlier in the innings castled No.10 batsman Abhimanyu Lamba in the last over. Without adding to the total after the loss of the ninth wicket, the hosts finished on 247 for nine.
