Report: Ind U-19 vs Zim U-19
India Under-19 opened their account with a thumping 148-run win over Zimbabwe Under-19 in the Quadrangular Under-19 Series in Visakhapatnam.
The Indian colts were propelled to 291 by Deepak Hooda’s 83 not-out lower down the order; while the Kuldeep Yadav-led bowling attack skittled out the opposition for a paltry 143. Yadav who has been in good form claimed four wickets, while Hooda, Aamir Gani and Sarfarz Khan returned to claim two each.
Earlier, after opting to bat first at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, the home team lost Akhil Herwadkar with just 28 runs on the board. And though Ankush Bains rallied on, he soon followed Vijay Zol back to the pavilion for 49. Kieran Geyle who dealt a double blow with wickets of Zol and Bains also claimed Shreyas Iye,r while Deven Bell caught Ricky Bhui off his own bowling to leave India on 142 for five. But Khan and Hooda rallied on and with a 77-run partnership took India U-19 to 219, before Khan was sent back by Luke Jongwe for 55. Hooda then found an able ally in Gani to take the team to 291 with an unbroken 72-run partnership for a seventh wicket.
Defending the total, Yadav set the ball rolling by castling Joylord Gumbie and soon followed up with the wicket of Dylan Nel. The hosts’ bowlers then kept striking at regular intervals not allowing the visitors to build partnerships to revive the innings.
Ryan Burl was the top-scorer for the Zimbabwe Under-19s with 46, while the rest of the line-up surrendered meekly to the Indian colts attack in 41.2 overs.
