Report: SA A vs Ind A, Day 4
Three wickets each by Ishwar Pandey (9.5-2-25-3) and Mohammad Shami (10-3-33-3) helped India A defeat South Africa A by an innings and 13 runs in the first unofficial Test at Rustenburg.
The hosts resumed on their overnight first-innings score of 312 for nine, before the last pair added 45 runs. Suresh Raina broke the partnership by trapping Andrew Birch lbw and ended South Africa’s innings on 357 – 76 adrift of the follow-on target.
India A skipper, Cheteshwar Pujara, asked the opposition to bat again and Pandey vindicated that decision by bowling Reezza Hendricks out in the very first over. Shami dismissed Dean Elgar and JP Duminy to leave South Africa A reeling on 15 for three.
Rilee Rossouw (34) was the first batsman to get a start and perish, as Raina picked up a wicket. Tenda Bavuna was the only half-centurion in the innings with a gritty 65, before falling prey to part-timer Rohit Sharma. Justin Ontong (19) and Thami Tsolekile (23) fell to Shami and Pandey respectively.
Shahbaz Nadeem chipped in with the wicket of Wayne Parnell, while Sharma picked up his second wicket in form of Kyle Abbott.
Pujara was named Man of the Match for his 137 in the first innings.
The two teams will play the second and final unofficial Test in Pretoria from August 24.
