Inter State T20 League round-up, Mar 18
Ashok Menaria starred with the bat and ball to help Rajasthan post their first win of the 2012-13 Inter State T20 League on the second day of the tournament. Here is the round-up for the day:
Central Zone
Rajasthan vs Railways: Rajasthan chased down 128 runs with 17 balls to spare and registered a seven-wicket over Railways. With 46-run knock, Ashok Menaria helped the team achieve the target with ease. Earlier, after opting to field first at Nagpur, Menaria claimed the first two wickets, while RR Chahar removed Paunikar and M S Khatri took the next three to restrict Railways to 127 and set up the game for Rajasthan.
Vidarbha vs MPCA: Playing in Nagpur, Vidarbha posted their second win in two days to take their tally to eight points. The Vidarbha bowlers bundled out MPCA for 99 and registered a 37-run win. Put in to bat, Faiz Fazal propelled Vidarbha to 136 with a 66 off 56 balls. While defending the total, S U Shrivastava claimed three and S B Wagh, R L Jangid and R D Thakur picked two wickets each.
North Zone
Delhi vs Punjab: With a 68*, Gautam Gambhir helped Delhi chase down the 161-run target set by Punjab in Teri. Beating them by six wickets, Delhi handed Punjab their second defeat in row. Pawan Negi and SY Narwal picked two wickets each, while Parvinder Awana and Rajat Bhatia took a wicket apiece to restrict the opposition to 160 for seven, after Punjab opted to bat first.
SSCB vs J&K: Services defeated J&K by five wickets to register their first win of the ongoing tournament. Despite opener S P Khajurai’s 59-ball 61, SSCB restricted J&K to 108 for seven in the allotted 20 overs and attained the target with four balls to spare. No.3 bat N H Verma (37) anchored the innings to take SSCB to victory.
Haryana vs Himachal: Haryana successfully defended 110 runs to pull off a 4-run win over Himachal in Rohtak. Opting to bat first, Haryana lost wickets early in the innings and failed to build partnerships as the Himachal bowlers struck at regular intervals. However, a 23-run knock by Jayant Yadav lower down the order and 16 runs each by SS Hood and A Khod helped them set a 111-run target for Himachal. The Haryana bowling attack restricted the opposition to 106 to claim victory.
South Zone
Andhra vs Hyderabad: Andhra coasted to a five-wicket win over Hyderabad to register their first win of the league phase, after losing to Tamil Nadu yesterday. Asked to bat first, Hyderabad were propelled to 161 for five by T Suman’s 56-ball 85-run knock. Andhra’s T Atchuta Rao picked a four-wicket haul. Andhra then chased down the target with an over to spare. Useful contributions by the rest of the line-up, after a 60-run opening partnership between KS Bharat (36) and S R Koripalli, helped them open their account in the T20 league.
Goa vs Tamil Nadu: Tamil Nadu beat Goa by eight wickets to take their points tally to eight and strengthen their position for a berth in the Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament. After restricting Goa to 122, they attained the target in 16.5 overs to coast to an eight-wicket win. Abhinav Mukund (49*) and S Badrinath (31*) ensured a comfortable victory for TN in Shimoga.
Karnataka vs Kerala: Karnataka beat Kerala by a massive 83-run margin to post their second successive victory in the league phase of the domestic T20 tournament. Half-centuries by Manish Pandey (50) and KI Rahul (62) powered Karnataka to 185 for five, after being asked to bat frist. Defending the total, Karnataka restricted Kerala to 102 for nine and sailed to a thumping victory.
East Zone
Assam vs Odisha: Assam beat Odisha by seven wickets and claimed four points from the win in Agartala. Put in to bat, BS Patil (54) helped Odisha set a 141-run target for Assam. During the chase, No.3 bat Pritam Debnath whipped 69 off 45 balls to take Assam across the line.
Jharkhand vs Tripura: Jharkhand beat Tripura by eight wickets in their East Zone encounter in Agartala. The Shahbaz Nadeem-led attack skittled out Tripura for 103 with four balls still remaining in the innings. Nadeem claimed three, while PN Seet took two to help bowl out the opposition. Ishank Jaggi then scored an unbeaten half-century to help his side post a win.
West Zone
Gujarat vs Mumbai: Gujarat beat Mumbai by 20 runs in Ahmedabad. Half-centuries by MK Patel and Manprit Juneja (71*) helped Gujarat post a 194-run target for Mumbai. Defending the formidable total, the Gujarat bowlers then restricted Mumbai to 173 for six and registered a win.
Maharashtra vs Saurashtra: Defending 130 runs, Saurashtra restricted Maharashtra to 115 for nine to claim a 15-run victory at the Sardar Patel Stadium. Jaydev Unadkat and Kuldeep Raval claimed three wickets each, while Siddharth Trivedi, Sandip Maniar and Kamlesh Makvana picked a wicket apiece, after Saurashtra posted 130 for six.
