IPL Fantasy League launched on March 12
MEDIA ADVISORY
The Pepsi IPL 2013 will be played across the country, from 3 April 2013 to 26 May 2013, and all the participating teams and their owners are hard at work, preparing for the new season.
The start of the annual cricketing spectacle will be preceded by the launch of what promises to be a phenomenon among cricket fans and followers. The IPL Fantasy League will provide an opportunity for thousands of new virtual/fantasy IPL team owners to pit their cricketing knowledge and selectorial skills against each other.
The IPL Fantasy League will be launched at 5:00 pm (IST) on Tuesday, 12 March 2013, on the IPL’s official website http://fantasy.iplt20.com . The league will provide anyone visiting the website the opportunity to create one's own ‘fantasy’ virtual team, comprising players belonging to different IPL sides. Each fantasy team can be named, and given a team logo, by the virtual owner. The virtual players comprising the fantasy team will earn points based on the actual performance of the real players in the Pepsi IPL 2013 matches. There will be points for scoring runs, holding catches, effecting run-outs and taking wickets, among other performances.
Each user will have a budget of 10 million virtual dollars within which they will have to create and manage a fantasy team. The players will have different values, which may vary during the course of the tournament based on their performances. A user's fantasy team will have to resemble an IPL team in material respects, in so far as it would have to include five-six batsmen, a wicketkeeper, four-five bowlers and a maximum of four overseas players. There will also be a maximum of six players that can be picked in a fantasy team from the same Pepsi IPL 2013 franchise.
The IPL Fantasy League will work in two formats:
a) Fantasy Championship - Users will manage their teams throughout the Pepsi IPL 2013 tournament, being allowed to make a limited number of substitutions within the constraints of the budget and the other rules.
b) Daily Challenge - This presents a simpler version where a user creates a team for the matches being played on one particular day of the Pepsi IPL 2013, with a winner announced daily.
The users whose ‘fantasy teams’ excel in the IPL Fantasy League stand to win exciting prizes in the form of Pepsi IPL 2013 player and team merchandise, as well as badges for different achievements. User registration for participation in the IPL Fantasy League is free and participation in the IPL Fantasy League is subject in all respects to the IPL Fantasy Game Terms and Conditions which shall be published on http://fantasy.iplt20.com.
“The Fantasy League is an exciting proposition. It is an online reflection of the IPL itself, blending as it does, technical and mental cricketing skills with the ‘fun’ element. The users will not pick their teams blindly; a lot of thought and strategising will go into the process. They will keep abreast of the daily developments in the Pepsi IPL 2013, and decide on their next course of action. They will also compare the relative strengths and weaknesses of their ‘teams,’ with those picked by others. From the devout cricket-follower to the casual observer, there is something in it for everybody. We will be adding more and more elements to the League, as we go along, with the objective of making it the most popular and competitive Fantasy League in the world,” Rajeev Shukla, Chairman, IPL, said.
