Pacer Sumit Narwal starred in Delhi’s win over Gujarat, while centurions Jagadeesh V A and Sachin Baby set up victory for Kerala against Punjab in the quarter-finals of the Vijay Hazare Trophy in Vizag. Here is the round-up for the day:

Gujarat vs DDCA: Delhi beat Gujarat by eight wickets in the first quarterfinal at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium.

Opting to field first the Delhi bowlers ran through the Gujarat line-up in 32 overs to bundle out the Parthiv Patel-led side for 126. Pacer Sumit Narwal led the charge with a five-wicket haul while Parvinder Awana and skipper Rajat Bhatia claimed two wickets each and Dhruv Shorey chipped in with one to restrict Gujarat.  Although they lost Shorey with just nine runs on the board, the Delhi top-order batsmen ensured a comfortable win for the team. Remaining unbeaten on 44, Gautam Gambhir helped Delhi overhaul the target in 28.4 overs with Punit Bisht (20 n.o.). Earlier, opening the innings for DDCA, Unmukt Chand made 28 while Mithun Manhas contributed 23 before retiring hurt.

Scorecard

Punjab vs Kerala: Kerala claimed a semi-final berth in the domestic one-day tournament with a 46-run win over Punjab in the second quarterfinal at the Port Trust Diamond Jubilee Stadium.

Asked to bat first, Jagadeesh V A (119) and Sachin Baby (104 n.o.) helped set a formidable 321-run target for Punjab. Sandeep Warrier then claimed the Punjab openers early in the innings while Prasanth Parameswaran bowled Yuvraj Singh for a duck to leave the opposition floundering on 24 for three. But, Gurkeerat Singh Mann (99) and Mandeep Singh (81) revived the innings with a 159-run partnership but could not take the team across the line. After Gurkeerat was run out, the Kerala bowlers picked wickets at regular intervals to bowl Punjab out for 274 and take their team to the next stage.
