Vijay Hazare Trophy Knockouts, Round-up, Feb 26
Karnataka and Assam beat UPCA and MPCA respectively in the pre-quarter final of the Vijay Hazare Trophy in Vizag on Tuesday. Here is the round-up for the day:
UPCA vs Karnataka: Karnataka outplayed UPCA to post a seven-wicket win at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium to claim a berth in the next round of the tournament. Opening the innings for Karnataka, KI Rahul scored an unbeaten 104 to help chase down the 195-run target, while GK Satish scored a half-century.
Earlier, the Suresh Raina-led UPCA line-up was skittled out for 194 runs, after being asked to bat first. Karnataka’s S S Shivalingaiah and K P Appanna took three and two wickets respectively, while Vinay Kumar, GK Satish and Abhimanyu Mithun picked a wicket each to help wrap up the UP innings in 45.2 overs.
MPCA v Assam: Assam beat MPCA by four wickets at the Port Trust Golden Jubilee Stadium to proceed to the next round of the tournament.
With an unbeaten 97, Sibsankar Roy helped Assam chase down the 211-run target with 25 balls to spare. Although they lost opener PP Das early, the rest of the batting line-up rallied around Roy to help Assam knock MPCA out of the race for the title.
Earlier, opener Naman Ojha (74) and captain Udit Birla’s (72 ) knocks helped MP post a respectable total on the board despite a poor performance by the rest of the bowling line-up that saw the team fold for 210 runs in 48.4 overs. Assam’s Abu Nechim Ahmed claimed a fiver, while Arup Das and Pritam Das took three and two wickets respectively.
