Wasim Jaffer (132) added yet another century to his mind-boggling Ranji Trophy record as Mumbai raced to a hefty first-innings lead against Saurashtra. At stumps on Day 2, Mumbai were 287/6, leading by 139 runs.
Jaffer produced one of his trademark classical knocks, before being adjudged lbw to a ball that seemed to be missing the stumps a long way. Left-arm spinner, Dharmendrasinh Jadeja, who was plundered for 96 in his 19 overs, was the beneficiary.
Earlier in the innings, Jaffer was in limelight for a terrible reason – running Sachin Tendulkar (22) out. Tendulkar took off for a run after playing the ball towards point but was sent back by Jaffer. As he made the rush back to his crease Kamlesh Makvana’s throw had him walking back to the pavilion.
During his brief stay at the wicket, the master batsman delighted his home crowd with a splendid off-drive, an elegant flick and his very own paddle sweep.
Jaffer continued to bat solidly, after losing Tendulkar, and formed a 50-run stand with Abhishek Nayar (26), before the latter threw it away in a bid to go big over midwicket.
Hiken Shah (41) and Dhawal Kulkarni (18) were at the crease at stumps. Siddharth Trivedi, Saurya Sanandiya and Makvana picked up a wicket each, while Jadeja scalped two.
