Ranji Trophy 2012-13: SF Round Up, Jan 18
1st Semi-final
Saurashtra vs Punjab, at Rajkot
After letting Saurashtra pile on 477 runs in the first innings, Punjab have responded rather meekly to the challenge. A four-wicket haul for off-spinner, Vishal Joshi, had the Harbhajan Singh-led side reeling and at the end of Day 3. Punjab are currently 183 runs behind, with one wicket standing.
Openers, Jivanjot Singh (68) and R Inder Singh (74) continued from the overnight score of 41/0 and built a solid partnership of 128. However, Vishal Joshi removed both the opening batsmen in a span of 10 overs, before getting rid of Mandeep Singh to tear through the Punjab top order.
Saurashtra left-arm pacer, Jaydev Unadkat, produced one of his better performances on the placid Rajkot track to pick up three wickets, including that of Punjab’s third half-centurion, Taruwar Kohli (59).
Wickets kept tumbling for Punjab thereafter and from a solid 128/0, their innings capitulated to 294/9 at stumps.
2nd Semi-final
Services vs Mumbai, at Palam-Delhi
The play on Day 3 was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to persistent rains in Delhi. Hence, Mumbai remain at 380/6 with two more days to go in the match.
