MEDIA RELEASE

Dubai, Dec 10: Bangladesh’s 3-2 series win over West Indies in the five-match ODI series, which ended on Saturday, has helped it move to eighth place in the Reliance ICC ODI Championship table.

Bangladesh is on 78 ratings points – six ahead of New Zealand and 10 behind sixth-ranked West Indies.

After taking a 2-0 lead in the series, Bangladesh had an opportunity to move ahead of the West Indies into seventh position on the Championship table if it had won the remaining three matches. But that was not to be and Bangladesh had to be content with a move up to the eighth place.

The side that tops the Championship table on the 1 April cut-off date collects a cheque of US$175,000 along with a Shield, while the team that finishes second receives a cheque of US$75,000.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh’s series win is also reflected in the Reliance ICC ODI Player Rankings, which were released on Sunday.

In the Reliance ICC Player Rankings for ODI bowlers, Abdur Razzak is in ninth position (up by one), Shafiul Islam in 47th (up by 13), Mahmudullah in 59th (up by 16) and Naeem Islam in 70th (up by two) while in the batting, Mahmudullah has also moved up 19 places to 49th position.

However, the biggest mover in the latest Reliance ICC Player Rankings for ODI bowlers was West Indies spinner Sunil Narine, who has jumped eight places to third position with a career-best ratings points of 724. This means the top three positions in the bowlers’ table are held by spinners, with the Pakistan duo of Saeed Ajmal and Mohammad Hafeez holding the top two positions. Overall, there are six spinners inside the top 10.

Narine, who won the ICC Emerging Cricketer of the Year Award in Colombo this September, picked up nine wickets in the five-match series at an average of 17.33. West Indies fast bowler Kemar Roach is now back in the top 20 at 18th after a jump of five places.

Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim, who won the player of the series award for his 204 runs with the bat, has been rewarded with a jump of 13 places in the Reliance ICC Player Rankings for ODI batsmen. He is now in 44th place. Darren Bravo in 50th (up by 13) and Darren Sammy in 64th (up by four) are the other batsmen to make upward movements.
