Ranji Trophy 2012-13: Round-up, Dec 4
Mumbai, Dec 4: J&K, Haryana, Tripura, Punjab registered victories in the fifth round of the Ranji Trophy 2012-13 season. Here is the round-up for the day:
Rajasthan vs Punjab in Chandigarh: Continuing with their winning streak in the Ranji Trophy 2012-13 season, Punjab beat Rajasthan by nine wickets to claim six points from the match.
Playing at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium, the home team chased down the 204-run target comfortably. Jiwanjot Singh scored unbeaten 110, while Ravi Inder Singh contributed 60 not out to Punjab’s win.
Mumbai vs Bengal in Mumbai: The drawn match at the Brabourne Stadium witnessed an impressive six-wicket haul by Abhishek Nayar as Mumbai tried in vain to pull off a win against Bengal. However, they gained three points on the basis of their first innings lead. To read the full report, click here.
Gujarat vs Hyderabad in Valsad: Gujarat received three points on the basis of their first innings lead against Hyderabad in the drawn match at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Stadium. After posting a mammoth 566 in the first innings they bowled the hosts out for 375 and asked them to follow on the last day of the match. Hyderabad who gained one point form the game were 124 for two when the match ended.
Rush Kalaria finished with five wickets in the match.
Saurashtra vs Railways in Rajkot: A drawn match at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium gave the hosts three points, while Railways received one.
After being bowled out for 335 earlier today, following on Railways were on 27 for one when the match was called off.
Tamil Nadu vs Vidarbha in Nagpur: Vidarbha were awarded three points on the basis of their first innings lead, while Tamil Nadu got one from the drawn match at the VCA Stadium.
Resuming their innings at 214 for two on the last day of the match they posted 566 for eight to gain a first innings lead in the fifth round Ranji Trophy game. TN had earlier made 443 for eight, before declaring their innings.
Haryana vs Delhi in Rohtak: Haryana beat Delhi by 35 runs at the Bansi Lal Cricket Stadium in Rohtak to pick up six points from the Group B match.
After resuming their second innings on 167 for six, the home team were all out on 209 earlier today and had set Delhi a 293-run target to win. Led by Amit Mishra they then bowled the visitors out for 209. The Haryana captain claimed a four-for, while Mohit Mishra took three and Jayant Yadav picked two to bundle out the opposition.
Maharashtra vs Odisha in Sambalpur: Resuming their second innings on 73 for one on the final day Maharashtra posted 333 for five, before the match was called off.
Odisha who posted 441 in the first innings gained three points on the basis of their lead in the drawn match.
Baroda vs UPCA in Kapur: UPCA collected seven points from their comprehensive 10-wicket win over Baroda on the third day of the match.
Tripura vs Himachal in Nadaun: Tripura gained six points from their 109-run win over Himachal in the fifth round Ranji Trophy game at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Stadium.
Bowled out for 177 in the second innings they had set HP a 359-run target to be achieved on the last day. Although Paras Dogra fought a lone battle with an unbeaten 105, they bowled HP out for 189 to collect six points. Sanjay Majumdar and Rana Dutta took three wickets each, while Abbas Ali claimed two. Timir Chanda and MB Murasingh chipped in with one wicket apiece in Tripura’s winning cause.
Kerala vs SSCB in Delhi (Palam): Services gained three points from their match against Kerala.
Kerala declared their second innings on 193 earlier today and set Services a target of 173. When the play ended SSCB were 85 for no loss.
Andhra vs Goa in Visakhapatnam: Andhra claimed three points on the basis of their first innings lead against Goa in the drawn game at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium.
Resuming their first innings on 285 for nine Goa were all out for 328 earlier today. Andhra then scored 193 for six, before declaring their innings to set the visitors a target of 259 runs. Chasing the total Goa were 14 without loss when the match ended and got one point from it.
J & K vs Assam in Guwahati: J&K registered a 235-run victory over hosts Assam and gained six points from the encounter. After the visitor’s post 318 runs in the second innings and set Assam 477-run target. The home team resumed their innings on 46 for three on the final day were bowled out for 241. Tarjinder Singh made a valiant 105 for Assam.
Ram Dayal claimed three wickets, while Parvez Rassol and Waseem Raza picked two apiece for J&K. Bandeep Singh, Manik Gupta and Ian Dev Singh chipped in with one wicket each in J&K’s winning cause.
