Ranji Trophy 2012-13: Round-up, Dec 1
Mumbai, Dec 1: Smit Patel scored his maiden first-class hundred against Hyderabad today. The 19-year-old Gujarat opener who played crucial knocks in the Under-19 circuit made quite an impression on the first day of the fifth round of the Ranji Trophy 2012-13 season. Here is the round-up for the day:
Rajasthan vs Punjab in Chandigarh: Group A table-toppers, Punjab bowled Rajasthan out for 222 on the first day after electing to field at the PCA Stadium. When play was called off the home team were 20 for one with Karan Goel and Ravi Inder Singh at the crease.
Earlier Siddarth Kaul claimed a four-for, while Sandeep Sharma picked three and Baltej Singh took to help bowl out the opposition. Middle-order batsman Puneet Yadav was the top-scorer for Rajasthan with 57 runs.
Mumbai vs Bengal in Mumbai: Mumbai posted 262 for seven, after visitors Bengal elected to field and claimed early wickets on Day 1 at the Brabourne Stadium. To read the full report click here.
Gujarat vs Hyderabad in Valsad: Smit Patel (114) powered Gujarat to 254 on the first day against Hyderabad. The youngster scored his maiden first-class Test hundred at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Stadium after Gujarat were put in to bat by the visitors. He was involved in a 163-run opening stand with Samit Gohel (85).
At stumps, Bhargav Merai (45) and Kushang Patel (2) were at the crease.
Saurashtra vs Railways in Rajkot: An unbeaten 111 by Ravindra Jadeja propelled Saurashtra to 227 for four, after choosing to bat on their home ground. Shitanshu Kotak was batting on 53 with Jadeja when the play ended today.
Krishnakant Upadhyay and skipper Sanjay Bangar claimed two scalps each for Railways on the first day of the four-day game.
Tamil Nadu vs Vidarbha in: With 101 not-out Subramaniam Badrinath took visitors Tamil Nadu to 253 for three at the end of Day 1 at the VCA Stadium against Vidarbha. He was batting with Baba Aparajith when stumps were called.
Haryana vs Delhi in Rohtak: Opting to bat first at theBansi Lal Cricket Stadium, Haryana were 219 for six at the end of day's play. Rahul Dewan contributed 71 while his opening partner Nitin Saini made 45. Delhi pacer Parvinder Awana claimed three of the six wickets that fell today.
At stumps Rahul Dalal was on 42 with Jayant Yadav on three.
Maharashtra vs Odisha in Sambalpur: Asked to bat at the Veer Surendra Sai Stadium, Maharashtra were 264 for seven at stumps on Day 1 with lower-order batsmen Shrikant Mundhe and Akshay Darekar were batting on 19 and 4 respectively.
Ankit Bawne made a 51 for the visitors, while opener Harshad Khadiwale (43) and Chirag Khurana (48) missed out on half-centuries. Basant Mohanty claimed two wickets for Odisha.
Baroda vs UPCA in Kapur: Playing at Green Park in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh bowled Baroda out for 254 after opting to bowl first. They left the visitors reeling at two for nine but Ambati Rayudu (85) and Kedar Devdhar (65) helped the visitors post a modest total with others in the middle order chipping in with double-digit scores. However the lower-order returned without any substantial contribution.
Ankit Rajpoot picked four wickets while Piyush Chawla took three for UP. The home team was 18 for no loss at the end of day’s play.
Tripura vs Himachal in Nadaun: After Himachal won the toss and opted to field, Tripura registered 325 for four at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Stadium on the first day of the four-day game. Subhrajit Roy struck 111 of 200 while Abbas Ali made 83.
While Vikramjeet Malik trapped opener SM Singha for two early in the innings, Rishi Dhawan picked two scalps later. At stumps Ajay Ratra (55) and Abhijit Dey (26) were at the crease.
Kerala vs SSCB in Delhi (Palam): Kerala opener VA Jagadeesh scored 126 not-out after they were asked to bat by Services in the fifth round game. Kerala were 192 for five with the opener and PU Anthaf still batting at the end of day’s play.
Andhra vs Goa in Visakhapatnam: Andhra were 240 for five after the host’s were asked to bat by Goa in the ongoing Ranji Trophy match. Saurabh Bandekar who claimed AP opener Hemal Watekar for zero has picked three wickets in the match so far. At stumps veteran batsman Amol Muzumdar (56) was batting with D Shivkumar (22) at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium.
J & K vs Assam in Guwahati: Put in to bat, J&K were 240 for seven at stumps on Day 1 against Assam at the Nehru Stadium. Arup Das set the ball rolling with the wicket of Adil Rishi in the sixth over of the day. The Assam pacer finished the day with a four-wicket haul, while Parevz Rassol was the top-scorer for the visitors with 67 runs.
When play was called off, O Haroon and Waseem Raza were batting on 35 and 12 respectively.
