Ranji Trophy 2012-13: Round-up, Nov 9
Mumbai, Nov 9: Day 1 of the second round of the Ranji Trophy 2012-13 saw Vineet Saxena, Hrishikesh Kanitkar and Abbas Ali post centuries. Here is the round up for the day:
Rajasthan vs Mumbai in Jaipur: Asked to bat by Mumbai’s stand-in captain, Rohit Sharma, Rajasthan lost their first wicket, Ankit Lamba, in the second over. But with a century each, senior cricketer Vineet Saxena and skipper Hrishikesh Kanitkar took the home team to commanding position. Ankeet Chavan ended the partnership by trapping Kanitkar leg before wicket for 119 to give Mumbai a much needed breakthrough.
Hyderabad vs MPCA in Hyderabad: Hyderabad were 159 for two at their home ground at the end of Day 1 after electing to bat. Hanuma Vihari and skipper VVS Laxman were at the crease batting on 76 and 70 respectively when play was called off.
Ishwar Pandey and Anand Rajan claimed one wicket each for MPCA.
Gujarat vs Saurashtra in Surat: Although Gujarat lost a couple of early wickets, opener Smit Patel took the team to 141, before returning to the dressing room for 61. Captain Parthiv Patel (56), Bhargav Merai (44) and Manprit Juneja (67*) made valuable contributions to take the team to 278 for five at stumps on Day 1.
Saurashtra’s Ravindra Jadeja claimed two wickets.
Punjab vs Bengal in Mohali: Opting to field first on their home ground, Punjab claimed seven wickets on the first day to leave Bengal on 280 for seven when play was called off. Manpreet Gony and Sandeep Sharma claimed two wickets each, while Siddarth Kaul, Amitoze Singh and Rahul Sharma claimed a wicket each.
Coming in at No.6, Bengal wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha was the top scorer for the visitors and remained unbeaten on 75, while Laxmi Ratan Shukla contributed 62, before being sent back by Rahul Sharma.
Tamil Nadu vs Karnataka in Chennai: Tamil Nadu posted 260 for the loss of two wickets on Day 1 at Chepauk, after electing to bat against Karnataka. All the top four batsmen scored half-centuries. Openers Abhinav Mukund and KB Arun Karthik scored 51 and 50 respectively, while Baba Aparajith and S Badrinath were not out on 85 and 61 when stumps were called.
Maharashtra vs UPCA in Pune: Rohit Motwani-led Maharashtra scored 339 for the loss of three wickets on the first day of their second Ranji Trophy encounter, against UP today. Opener Harshad Khadiwale made 68, while Sangram Atitkar contributed 80, before being castled by Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
Centurion Kedar Jadhav was not out on 102 with Ankit Bawne on 60 when play ended.
Delhi vs Odisha in Delhi: After wrapping up the Odisha innings for 143, hosts Delhi were 62 for the loss of three at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium at the end of Day 1.
Earlier Manan Sharma claimed four for 30, while Pawan Suyal picked three wickets and Sumit Narwal and Parvinder Awana chipped in with two and one wicket respectively to help bowl out Odisha.
Delhi’s Mithun Manhas and Sharma were at the crease when stumps were called.
Himachal vs SSCB in Amtar: Put in to bat, Services posted 290 for the loss of six wickets on Day 1 against HPCA. Opener Pratik Desai was the leading run-getter for Services with 61, while three other batsmen contributed with half-centuries.
Rishi Dhawan and Prashant Chopra took two wickets apiece, while Mohinderraj Sharma picked one scalp.
Andhra vs Tripura in Anantapur: Tripura were 228 for six, after choosing to bat first against AP. Middle-order bat Abbas Ali anchored the innings with an unbeaten century and was batting on 103 with Manisankar Murasingh on five when play ended.
Syed Sahabuddin and Duvvarapu Shivkumar picked two wickets each for AP.
Goa vs J&K in Goa: Playing at the District Institute of Education and Training Ground in Porvorim, visitors J&K reached 196 for seven against hosts Goa at the end of the first day. Middle-order batsman Parvez Rassol anchored the J&K innings with an unbeaten 90, while captain Samiullah Beigh was not out on three when stumps were called.
Goa’s Saurabh Bandekar and Sher Yadav claimed two wickets apiece.
Jharkhand vs Assam in Jamshedpur: After opting to bowl first at the Keenan Stadium, Jharkhand skittled out Assam for 179 on the first day of the four-day game. Jaskaran Singh set the ball rolling with a wicket off the first ball, while Sunny Gupta and skipper Shahbaz Nadeem claimed four wickets each. When the day’s play ended, Jharkhand were two for no loss after one over.
