Ranji Trophy 2012-13: Round-up, Nov 5
Mumbai, Nov 5: Punjab and Assam collected seven points each by beating Hyderabad and Tripura respectively, while Uttar Pradesh picked six points after defeating neighbours Delhi in the first round of the Ranji Trophy 2012-13 season. The next round of matches begins on November 9, 2012.
Bengal vs Rajasthan in Kolkata: In the drawn match at the Eden Gardens, Bengal finished with three points on the basis of their first innings lead against Rajasthan, while the visitors got one point.
Bengal declared their second innings at 232 for nine earlier today. Chasing a 330-run target, Rajasthan were 181 for the loss of three wickets when the match was called off.
Punjab vs Hyderabad in Mohali: Punjab collected seven points in their opening game of the tournament by beating Hyderabad by an innings and 68 runs at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali.
After posting a mammoth 565 batting second, the hosts wrapped up the Hyderabad innings for 239 today.
MPCA vs Gujarat in Indore: In the drawn match at Indore Gujarat received three points on the basis of their first innings lead.
Resuming at 23 for no loss, MP posted a second innings score of 258 for seven, before the match was called off.
Odisha vs Tamil Nadu in Cuttack: With only 33.1 overs of play possible at the DRIEMS Ground in Tangi, Cuttack, the four-day match ended in a draw with both teams collecting a point each.
Haryana vs Vidarbha in Lahli: Vidarbha beat Haryana in three days and picked up six points from the game.
Baroda vs Karnataka in Baroda: Hosts Baroda gained three points from the drawn match against visitors Karnataka. The Vinay Kumar-led visiting side picked a point from the game.
Resuming on the overnight score of 115 for four, Baroda were all-out for 249, while Karnataka posted 102 for one in reply today.
UPCA vs Delhi in Ghaziabad: Suresh Raina-led UP registered a six-wicket win over the star-studded Delhi line-up to collect six points from this first round match.
After bowling Delhi out for 322 earlier today, UP successfully chased down the 155-run target to start the tournament on a winning note.
Himachal Pradesh vs Kerala in Amtar: In yet another drawn match HP received three points on the basis of their first innings lead while opponents Kerala collected a point.
Resuming on 28 for three, Kerala posted 256 for six. Batting at No.6, Rohan Prem was unbeaten on 104 when play stopped.
Andhra Pradesh vs SSCB in Anantapur: The Soomik Chatarjee-led Services bowled out AP for 251 to take a 46-run first innings lead today and gain three points from the drawn encounter. When play was called off on the fourth day, Services were 59 for two.
Assam vs Tripura at Guwahati: Assam beat Tripura by 10 wickets and finished the first match with seven points.
Centurion Ajay Ratra and Manisankar Murasingh put up a late fight to take Tripura’s second innings total 366 and set Assam a 62-run target on the last day of the match. Assam reached the target in 15.2 overs with Pallavkumar Das scoring a half-century.
J&K vs Jharkhand at Jammu: Jharkhand beat J&K yesterday to claim seven points.
