Mumbai, Nov 4: After the England XI batsmen stole the show on Day 1, Mumbai A bounced back on Day 2 of their three-day warm-up game at the Dr. D.Y. Patil Stadium. Aided by their bowlers and top-order batsmen, the hosts managed to get back into the game today by initially restricting the visitors to 345/9 and then by getting to 232/4 by the end of day’s play.

Earlier in the morning, England XI resumed form their overnight total of 338/6, with Samit Patel playing on 59. The spinner added just one more run to his individual score, and was dismissed for 60 just off the next ball that saw the back of Stuart Broad (6). Graham Onions (0) was the next man to go; the visitors decided to declare their innings at this point with their score reaching 345/9.

Shardul Thakur and Kshemal Waingankar picked up three wickets each for Mumbai A. Meanwhile, Javed Khan picked up two scalps and Suryakumar Yadav accounted for the other wicket to fall.

Then, Mumbai A made a cautious start to their innings as both openers took their time to see off the new-ball bowlers. However, Onions still managed to get the better of Bhavin Thakkar (5); the pacer had the Mumbai A opener caught behind by Jonny Bairstow. The visitors’ next breakthrough came when their top-order batsman and part-time spinner Joe Root saw the back of Shikhar Dhawan (27).

Thereafter, Cheteshwar Pujara and Hiken Shah crafted a solid 163-run partnership for the third wicket. They were separated when Pujara (87) was caught by James Anderson off the bowling of Monty Panesar. At that point, Yadav walked to the middle and picked up where Pujara had left. The No.5 batsman scored a 19-ball 17, before Anderson got rid of him. The umpires called for stumps at the fall of this wicket with Shah remaining unbeaten on 79 and the score reading 232/4.
