Colombo, Oct 3: India raced to a nine-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the ICC Women’s World Twenty20 2014 qualification match at the Nondescripts Cricket Club Ground.

India, who have been suffering a string of losses, chased down the 101-run target with 32 balls to spare. Dismissed for 17 by Inoka Ranaweera, opener Sulakshana Naik was the only wicket to fall in the Indian innings. At 38 for one, Mithali Raj joined Poonam Raut in the middle and the duo took their team across the line with an unbroken 64-run partnership. Raut led the run-chase with a 40-ball 45-run knock and was ably supported by Raj who remained not out on 28 off 33 balls.

Earlier, left-arm spinner Ekta Bisht and off-spinner Rasanara Parwin ran through the Sri Lankan batting line-up to restrict them to 100 for eight after SL opted to bat first.

Bisht who claimed three wickets, gave India their first breakthrough by running out Prasadani Weerakkody for six in the third over. Soon, Inoka Galagedara was sent back by Parwin.

At two down for 31, Chamari Atapattu and Shashikala Siriwardene came together and looked to build a partnership. However, their joint effort ended at 42 runs when Parwin struck again to remove Atapattu in the 15th over.  Anuja Patil soon followed up with the wicket of Siriwardene, while Bisht claimed a hat-trick in the last over. The next ball, she affected a run-out.

In a spectacular last over, Bisht was responsible for four dismissals in four balls. After dismissing Dilani Manodara, Yasoda Mendis, Eshani Kaushalya off consecutive balls, she ran out Sandamali Dolawatte off the fifth delivery of the over and finished with three for 16 in four overs.

Brief scores: Sri Lanka 100/8 in 20 overs (Chamari Atapattu 28, Shashikala Siriwardene 23, Ekta Bisht 3/16, Rasanara Parwin 2/23) lost to India 102/1 in 14.4 overs (Poonam Raut 45*, M Raj 28*) by 9 wickets
