Had to play carefully today: Virat
Colombo, Sep 19: Virat Kohli scored a crucial half-century to help India post a competitive score against Afghanistan. The youngster, who has been the mainstay of India’s batting line-up for some time now, anchored the Indian innings with a 39-ball 50. He was adjudged Man-of-the-Match for his mature knock after India won their tournament opener.
Excerpts from his brief chat during the post-match presentation ceremony:
On his knock
It is always good to get a good start. I had a decent knock in the warm-up game as well; so yes, it is good to start on a winning note.
On whether it was tough to concentrate and focus on his natural game since India was in a spot of bother when he came to bat
It is always tough to play against a team, which has nothing to lose. A team like that can go out and express themselves and the bowlers can try things that can come off more often than not. They were in a situation where they could try a few things but, we had to be careful, so I had to play out a few deliveries initially and then look to consolidate after that; and that worked for me.
On what keeps him motivated
It is passion for the sport, I guess. When I go out to play for India, I have the same passion. I put in same amount of work in every practice session and I try to perform as best as I can for the team. The key consistency is to be passionate about your sport.
