Townsville, Aug 20: India scraped through with one wicket in hand to win the match against old rivals Pakistan in the ongoing ICC U19s CWC 2012. The match could have gone either way till the last run was scored at the Tony Ireland Stadium. India captain Unmukt Chand and Pakistan skipper Babar Azam lauded their teams’ performances in the post-match presentation ceremony.

Excerpts from their brief interviews:

Unmukt Chand:

On whether he was nervous during the chase as India lost wickets

I was very nervous and I could feel the goose-bumps and I am still shivering right now. It was one of the best finishes and both the teams played really well.

On the start given by Sandeep Sharma with two wickets in the first over

It was a really good start. Sandeep bowled really well and he was always on the money. Ravi Kant Singh and [Kamal] Passi also bowled well and then Harmeet [Singh] came in [to bowl and did well]. The fielding was top-notch and we did well as a fielding side.

On Baba Aparajith’s performance

He played really well. It was his day today. He took four good catches and got their main batsman [Babar Azam] out and also contributed with a fifty. If he could have finished with an unbeaten knock it would have been really good but he played really well [in the situation].

On Pakistan’s performance

They could have done it [won the match]. We have played three matches till now [against each other]. The first match we lost by one run, the other match was a tie and this match we won by one wicket so it is always good to play with Pakistan. It is really competitive and I will wish them luck for the future. They were really good.

Babar Azam:

On the close encounter

I am proud of my team, bad luck [though]. It was a low-score [that we were defending]. I am proud of my team for fighting till the last ball.

On the bad start while batting with Sandeep Sharma wrecking their top-order

Yes. But we played well and the bowlers tried their level best [while defending].

On the loss and if Ehsan Adil had another over they would have had a chance

It was difficult [game]. We made a few mistakes that’s why we lost the match.
