Mumbai, Aug 14: The president of Mumbai Cricket Association, Vilasrao Deshmukh passed away in Chennai after losing a battle with liver cancer. Deshmukh, 67, was also a Union minister and former Maharashtra Chief Minister.
On the unfortunate occasion, BCCI President, Mr. N Srinivasan released a statement to pay tribute to Deshmukh.
“Mr. Vilasrao Deshmukh was an excellent administrator. He was very fond of cricket, and a regular at cricket matches played in Mumbai. He was part of the Mumbai Cricket Association for several years, and was elected President of the Mumbai Cricket Association last year. He was Chairman of the BCCI’s Media Committee since last September. This is a big loss for the Board. I would like to express my heartfelt condolences to his family. May his soul rest in peace,” Srinivasan said.
Deshmukh was flown to Chennai through an air ambulance on August 6 on ventilator support. He was admitted in Global Hospitals and Health City in Perumbakkam for a liver-related disease. He breathed his last on Tuesday afternoon before the liver transplant procedure could take place.
