Passi and Singh won us the match: Chand
Townsville, Aug 14: India opened their account in the ICC Under 19 Cricket World Cup 2012 with a victory against Zimbabwe. After losing their first match against the West Indies the Indian colts need to win both their remaining games to have a chance to make it to the knock-out stage.
India skipper, Unmukt Chand reflected on the match and his innings during the presentation ceremony.
Excerpts:
On whether Malcolm Lake’s innings made the match difficult for India
There was some tension [while he was batting]. Credit for the way he played. It was a superb innings by him. But the way the boys [Indian bowlers] came back was really good. The medium pacers bowled really well and in the right spots and that probably got us back into the match.
On changes in the bowling attack for this match
It probably wasn’t a weak link. They bowled really well yesterday but the way [Kamal] Passi and Ravi Kant [Singh] bowled was superb. It was probably their first match and they bowled superbly and they were the ones who were responsible for the outcome of this match.
On whether he enjoyed his batting today
I did enjoy. It was fun batting. The wicket was a bit soft initially but later on it became much better and I enjoyed my knock here.
On the match today and areas that they need to work on
We have played really well. We started off well but the middle-order didn’t capitalise on the good start. But we ended on a high note so if we can do the same things again, the right things then we will be in a better seat.
