Important to enjoy in T20s: Dilshan
Kandy, Aug 7: Tillakaratne Dilshan is considered as one of the most fearsome batsmen in world cricket in all formats. He is one of only five players to have scored a century in Tests, ODIs and Twenty20s. Ahead of Sri Lanka’s solitary T20 match against India, Dilshan stated the importance of the match, given it is their last T20I before the World Twenty20 in September.
Excerpts from Dilshan’s pre-match TV interview.
You’re one of the five players to have scored century in all three formats. Your thoughts?
From our team Mahela [Jayawardene] and I have scored hundreds in Tests, ODIs and T20s and it’s a great achievement for us. Mahela is a great cricketer and a genius with the bat in all three formats.
This match is a start of the lot of T20s for Sri Lankan cricketers, with the Sri Lanka Premier League and the World Twenty20 coming up.
This is the last international T20 that we play before the World T20 and everyone should make full use of this match. After a few days we start the Sri Lanka Premier League and then go to the World T20. It’s a good set-up for the Lankan team before the World Cup. T20 is a format in which it is very important to enjoy your game. Enjoyment plays an important role in success in T20 cricket.
How has Sri Lanka’s form been in T20Is recently?
The last series we drew 1-1 against Pakistan and won the previous one 2-0 against Australia at home. We posted a huge score in one match and then defended a modest one in the second.
What’s a good score on this wicket?
More than 160-170 will be a good score. The wicket is really flat as we saw when we played the last ODI. The bowlers need runs on the board here.
