Lucky to get five wickets: Irfan
Kandy, Aug 4: Coming into the side in place of the injured Vinay Kumar, Irfan Pathan finished the series with a match winning performance. The pacer’s second five-wicket haul in ODIs was instrumental in India beating Sri Lanka in the fifth game here today.
A jubilant Irfan revealed how the series panned out for him during the post-match presentation ceremony.
Excerpts:
On claiming a five-for and the Man-of-the-match award
It is God’s grace. I was bowling well throughout the whole series. I was not sure today, I had too many bad deliveries today but luckily I got five wickets. It is always good to be on the winning side.
On whether his two good batting performances in the series helped to boost his confidence
Yes, definitely it gave me a lot of confidence. It came at the right time [and], that was the most important thing, once in Premadasa and now here.
On the pitches having something in them for the seamers
Yes, absolutely. Because of the humid conditions the ball does swing. And especially with the two new balls, it does help with the swing for those who can swing the ball.
On enjoying the challenges of bowling in difficult situations during the match
Absolutely! That’s our job, that’s why we are here and we have been getting good support from the supporting staff and team is playing really well so it is a great feeling.
