WI A vs India A – 3rd Test, Day 2
Mumbai, June 18: Propelled by a Kieran Powell (139) century; the West Indies A side took a 90-run lead to finish on 320 for the loss of eight wickets at the end of Day 2 of the third Test against India A.
Earlier, Kraigg Brathwite (15) was the first to depart after the hosts added just three runs to their overnight score of 34. Pacer Parvinder Awana sent back the opener while Akshay Darekar followed-up with the wicket of Kyle Corbin (26).
During his 139-run stay at the crease, Powell was involved in useful partnerships with Corbin, Nkrumah Bonner (23), Donovan Pagon (30) and Devon Thomas before being the last to depart on the second day. The opener was caught and bowled by 22-year-old Bengal pacer Shami Ahmed who had earlier picked the wicket of Thomas (50). The Powell-Thomas partnership added 78-runs for the sixth wicket before Ahmed struck.
Jalaj Saxena who top-scored for India A in the first innings with 61 also claimed three wickets on day 2. Middle-order batsmen– Bonner, Carter and Pagon all fell prey to Saxena’s off-spin to end the day on 320 for 8.
