Motivation the key: Harmanpreet
Mumbai, June 11: The Indian women’s team has had a tough time of late; succumbing to losses against West Indies and Australia in the Caribbean and at home respectively. But the emergence of talented all-rounder Harmanpreet Kaur has provided a ray of hope for the future. Named as the vice-captain of the team for the upcoming England series, Harmanpreet revealed she is ready to take on more responsibility in the side.
Always bubbling with energy on the field, the 23-year-old Punjab cricketer took out time for a brief chat with bcci.tv.
Excerpts:
Congratulations on the vice-captaincy, how do you see your new role?
It is a big thing for me that I have been given this responsibility by the BCCI. I hope to fulfill it to the best of my abilities.
Although you have performed well, the team has had a poor outing in the previous series, how do you plan to turn things around?
Yes, it is true that the team’s performance has not been good in the recent past. I will try to help the team win with my performance.
How do you motivate the team?
In the last series our batting and bowling, both were not good so it is important to motivate the team so that they perform better in the forthcoming series.
As a pacer do you look forward to playing in English conditions?
Yes it is a good thing that we will get good wickets. We have started working and preparing accordingly here and hope to do well. [...] In India there isn’t much bounce in the wicket so we will practice playing with bouncers.
You see yourself as a batting all-rounder or bowling all-rounder?
Batting all-rounder. In the earlier matches I didn’t get to bowl much but later when I got the opportunity and bowled well. I hope I get to bowl more so I am concentrating on my bowling as well.
How do you see this series in terms of preparation for the forthcoming World T20?
It is good for the preparation. Earlier we used to play from World Cup to World Cup so we used to face a bit of problem. Now that we have a few series in between we will know where we stand and so then accordingly we have to work.
