My best innings: Ingram
Johannesburg, Mar 30: Colin Ingram top-scored with a 50-ball 78 in the one-off T20I between South Africa and India. He was involved in a 119-run partnership with Jacques Kallis (61) as South Africa set India a 220-run target.
The batsman spoke about his innings, and his partnership with Kallis, in a television interview during the innings break. Excerpts:
On batting with Jacques Kallis
[It was good to] just get a few runs. It’s just a few times that I have batted with [Jacques Kallis]. It is a T20 international and it’s really nice to see him out there and doing his best.
On whether this was his best innings
Yes, I think so. I have been playing as well as I would have liked in the T20 format. So far, [it’s good] to get out there and get some runs.
On the team plan at the start of the innings
We did not think about a target or that sort of thing. We just [wanted] to get 200 or so in 20 overs and take it from there.
On the wicket
It’s really good. [...] This is slow but really good and I think we have to bowl well as well.
On the innings featuring good cricketing shots rather than slogs
It is a cricket wicket so it is largely to do with that. It’s not such a good outfield [so that] encourages you to sort of stick it out there and play some good shots.
