Cummins joins Aus U19 squad
Sydney, March 30: Cricket Australia (CA) has today advised that Pat Cummins will join the Australia U19 squad for its International Quad Series starting in Townsville next week.
Cummins’ inclusion is part of a plan to re-introduce the 18-year-old to competitive cricket after a long injury lay-off due to a bone stress injury in his foot.
CA General Manager Team Performance Pat Howard said: “Pat’s inclusion in the Australia U19 squad for the Quad Series in Townsville is part of his management plan to reintroduce him to competitive cricket while being able to closely monitor his workload.
“His progress will be assessed on a day-by-day basis throughout the series to ensure his overall program remains on track.”
CA Physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said: “Pat is at an advanced stage of his rehabilitation and we feel he will benefit from bowling in a competitive environment. He’ll be on a restricted program and is being taken to Townsville so we can continue his progression and introduce some competition time.
“He won’t play in every match or bowl his full allocation of overs, but will undertake a program that will allow us to carefully manage his involvement in the squad’s training and matches.”
The Quad Series, featuring Australia, England, India and New Zealand, will start next Thursday 5 April and continue until Sunday 15 April with matches played at Tony Ireland Stadium and Endeavour Park in Townsville. It will be used as a key warm-up up event ahead of the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup in Queensland in August this year.
All matches are limited-overs using standard ICC One-Day International playing conditions.
The following umpires have been selected to officiate in the Quad Series matches:
- Mike Graham-Smith (TAS)
- Jay Kangur (QLD)
- Simon Lightbody (ACT)
- Richard Patterson (VIC)
