Match report: Ind vs Aus (Women), 1st T20I
Vizag, Mar 18: Australia beat India by 29 runs in the first T20I of the five-match series at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium here.
Opting to bat first, Australia scored 138 runs for the loss of four wickets. Subhlaxmi Sharma removed opener Leah Poulton in the second over to give India an early breakthrough. Jess Cameron, who took Australia to victory in the previous game with an unbeaten 90, then joined Meg Lanning in the middle and the duo added 102 runs for the second wicket. After Cameron, who scored a 50-ball 67, was run out in the 16th over, Lanning was dismissed by Jhulan Goswami in the following over.
Chasing 139, India lost their openers with only seven runs on the board. After Julie Hunter removed Amita Sharma in the first over, Erin Osborne followed up with the wicket of Sulkashana Naik in the next over. It was an uphill task for the hosts as the Australian bowlers kept up the pressure, picking wickets at regular intervals. Their leading wicket-taker today, Lisa Sthalekar, claimed three scalps including the key wicket of Mithal Raj and later Harmanpreet Kaur who put up a lone fight with a 48-ball 57. Skipper Anjum Chopra chipped in with 24 before being run out.
