Mirpur, Mar 16: Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar made cricketing history in Mirpur scoring his hundredth century in international cricket. The momentous feat came in the fourth match of the Asia Cup, against Bangladesh in Mirpur.

Opening the innings for India with Gautam Gambhir, Tendulkar scored his century off 138 balls on a good batting track. The Little Master reached the magical figure after nudging Shakib Al Hasan for a single in the 44th over of the match. The 100th ton came exactly one year and five days after his 99th international century, against South Africa in the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup. The 38-year-old now stands alone as far as batting records are concerned, his latest ton etching his name in world cricket’s folklore.

Tendulkar acknowledged his feat in the way he marks every batting landmark – by raising his bat and looking skyward. On this occasion, Tendulkar was visibly overcome with emotion even as he ran the momentous single. A long look heavenwards, an acknowledgement of the dressing room and spectators, and the master was back to business.

Tendulkar was eventually dismissed on 114 trying to up the scoring rate. He edged a Mashrafe Mortaza delivery to wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim in the 47th over, bringing an end to an innings that will long remain the toast of the cricketing fraternity. Tendulkar has now amassed 49 ODI centuries and 51 Test tons, an achievement that could well remain unsurpassed in the game’s history.
