Making the most of my form: Kohli
Mirpur, Mar 13: Virat Kohli is certainly making the most of his purple patch. The right-hander followed up his impressive performance against Sri Lanka in Australia with another sparkling century in India’s opening encounter of the Asia Cup. The 23-year-old’s knock ensured that the Indians reached a commanding total of 304 for three.
At the post-match TV interview, Man-of-the-Match Kohli said he was honoured at being appointed India’s vice-captain and was eager to take on the attendant duties.
Excerpts:
On his performance in the match
I am very happy considering the kind of conditions we came from in Australia – to be able to adjust that quickly. It’s a satisfying feeling to get a win on the board.
On his eighth hundred in ODIs
I’ve been hitting the ball well so I’ve been trying to make the most of it because you are going to [hit] a bad patch [at some point]. You should make the most of it when you are hitting the ball well and I am doing that now.
On batting with Gautam Gambhir
We sort of have similar games and we understand each other really well. And we run well between the wickets so there is a lot of understanding. We don’t really have to tell each other what to do because there is that understanding now.
On his ability to adjust to different conditions
It’s very satisfying when the wicket is slow and you have to adjust to control your rush of blood. Just take the odd single and at the end of the day you’ll see that the result is in your favour. It is always very satisfying when you have to rough it out there; it’s a great feeling altogether.
On being made vice-captain of the Indian cricket team
It’s just a great honour for me; at 23 I never expected that. I am really honoured that I’ve been given that post and I’ll try to take on as much responsibility as I can.
