Dravid set high standards: Kallis
Mumbai, March 12: Rahul Dravid’s 16-year-long cricketing career is an inspiring story of hard work, dedication and success. His recorded achievements have won him a place alongside the all-time sporting greats. But it is the respect he has earned among his own team-mates, and cricketing colleagues from across the world, that is his true legacy.
Jacques Kallis, all-rounder par excellence, raised a toast to Dravid in an exclusive chat with bcci.tv. “He has been a shining example of what a true servant to the game represents,” he said.
A hallmark of Dravid’s batting was the price he put on his wicket. Kallis, who bats with a similar doggedness, values this ability of his Indian counterpart. “He has one of the best techniques that I have seen. Once you got him out, you always felt that you had a chance [in the game].”
The two giants of the game shared dressing-room space at the Royal Challengers Bangalore for three years.
“He was a very quiet and kind man who always played the game in the right spirit. I was fortunate to play in a few games alongside him during the IPL,” the South African star said.
“What he has achieved in the game is incredible. He set high standards for himself and for India. The game will be poorer for not having him around but I’m sure he will enjoy his retirement; he deserves it and he will be missed.”
