Good total to defend: Hilfenhaus
Brisbane, Feb 19: Australia successfully halted their two-match losing streak in the CB Series thanks in part to Ben Hilfenhaus’ wonderful comeback in ODI cricket. The 28-year-old bagged a five-for to ensure that India never had a chance of conquering the steep target. Returning to ODI cricket after a hiatus of more than two years, Hilfenhaus arrested the Indian chase with the crucial wickets of Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni.
The pacer from Tasmania spoke about his effort during the post-match presentation ceremony. Excerpts:
On making his comeback in the ODI side
It’s obviously a good feeling to be back. I think today [we] put some good runs on the board and [saw] a great performance from everyone.
On whether his Test-match form rubbed off on his performance today
I’ve been working on a few things and my rhythm is pretty good at the crease. I just control things that I can control and do my role for the team.
On whether bowling with two new balls was beneficial
Yeah, definitely. It stays hard longer and I definitely like it, that’s for sure.
On getting the wickets of Tendulkar, Kohli and Dhoni
I couldn’t get Sachin [Tendulkar] throughout the Test series; it’s nice to get him at some stage. It was a great performance from everyone. I think our batters stood up today and got us to a pretty good total to defend.
