Can’t wait for more: Forrest
Adelaide, Feb 13: Debutant Peter Forrest scored 66 runs and took a superb catch to send back Virat Kohli in the CB series league encounter against India but was unfortunate to end up on the losing side. The 26-year-old spoke about joining in the big league, and the fantastic crowd support he received, in a television interview after the match.
Excerpts from his brief chat:
On the match
I loved every minute of it but it’s just a shame [that] we couldn’t get the [desired] result tonight.
On whether he had heard this kind of loud cheering before
No. Indians definitely get into it. It’s a buzz, good fun. Can’t wait to play more of it.
On treating his debut like just another game
You try and keep it like just another game. But I just thought I would go out there and play my way and I was fairly [unhappy with] myself that I got out trying to do something that is not in my game. So that was the plan today and I was pretty lucky it came off.
On whether he found international cricket different from playing at the domestic level
I suppose the pressure [is what makes it different]. It’s still someone bowling the ball and you have to hit it but you don’t play state cricket in front of crowds and you don’t play with superstars on the field as well. It can really be intimidating so I suppose that’s the biggest thing, but it’s great fun. It’s something [that] I have really enjoyed.
On what was going through his head when he took the catch to dismiss Kohli
Definitely not drop it. […] It soared up and it actually swirled on me at the last minute […] It was good in the end. Lucky it stuck.
On the support he got while batting
It’s always nice. I have been coming to Adelaide and have been reasonably successful here which has been handy. The crowd is very good, it’s good fun. Even the Indians gave me [support] which is nice. I would definitely love to come back.
On a good debut
It’s always nice to do well personally but the team matters, so I was obviously looking to win tonight. We thought we were about 10 or 15 runs short. We knew we had our backs up against the wall from ball one so we bowled reasonably well. We didn’t field [to our potential] tonight so it was unfortunate but it was a good game in the end anyway.
