Preview: Australia v India – 4th ODI
What
The fourth One-Day International of the tri-series competition featuring Australia, India and Sri Lanka. India clash against the hosts.
When
February 12, 2012. The game begins at 08:50 IST.
Where
Adelaide Oval, Adelaide. Both teams enjoy good records at this venue. India were beaten by the hosts in the last tri-series competition match played at this venue in 2008, but came back to beat Sri Lanka in the very next game played here in the same series. Australia, meanwhile, will take confidence from the fact that they have won three of the last four matches played at Adelaide.
The Teams
Australia have opted to rest Michael Hussey for this match while Ben Hilfenhaus, who replaced the injured Brett Lee, will return to Hobart and not be part of the squad for tomorrow’s game. As a result, the hosts will have a 12-member unit available to pick their playing eleven from which means that Peter Forrest could make his ODI debut as a replacement for Hussey.
Although India won the last game against Sri Lanka, their middle-order batting still remains a problem. Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni have scored only 92 runs cumulatively in the two matches the visitors have played in this series, a performance that must significantly improve if India are to repeat their 2008 success.
Key Players
By all expectations, Peter Forrest is likely to make his ODI debut for Australia in this game. Forrest is among the leading run-getters in the 2011-12 Sheffield Shield tournament, having scored 581 runs from six matches at an average of 58.10. The 26-year-old, consequently, comes into this game with a lot of people expecting him to be the future of the Australian top-order batting.
Zaheer Khan, who made a return to ODI cricket in the last game against Sri Lanka after the 2011 ICC ODI World Cup final, hit his stride immediately. The Indian pacer finished with figures of 10-1-44-2 in that game. It is his ability to put the top-order under pressure that gives India an advantage every time he plays.
