Clarke fuelled intensity: Wade
Melbourne, Feb 5: Debutant Matthew Wade won the Man-of-the-Match award for his 67-run knock as Australia beat India by 65 runs in the tri-series opener at the MCG. The wicketkeeper-batsman looks forward to a good future for Australia.
Excerpts from his post-match media interaction:
On how the week has been for him
It was hectic. To be picked in the One-Day Internationals and to contribute, I am really happy.
On how it felt when he and Daniel Christian were handed their caps by Ian Healy and Rodney Marsh
It’s a great feeling. [I want to] keep playing for Australia, one-day cricket and Test cricket, so I’m really happy to contribute.
On whether the good spirits in the Australian team help the new players coming in
Yes, the boys went all out in the Test series; then we did well in the Twenty20. We are trying to continue that form. [Michael] Clarke spoke to us before we went out [and told us] to keep the intensity up throughout the match.
On what it was like to bat with his hero Ricky Ponting
[...] I was just trying to come out [and] concentrate and not get caught up in it.
On looking like he’s part of the team already
I have played some cricket with some of these guys. […] The MCG I am pretty familiar with so it was good to get out there and do well.
