Melbourne, Feb 3: India registered their first victory of the tour beating hosts Australia by eight wickets at the venue where it all started over a month ago. In the post-match presentation skipper MS Dhoni appreciated his team’s performance, especially their fielding, in the second and final T20I.

Excerpts from Dhoni’s post-match media interaction:

On the win

It’s always good to be on the winning side. It’s not a bad start in coloured clothing. Our fielding was exceptional. It is the best fielding side I have seen. In the coming tri-series, we can only match this effort. It won’t be an easy task to beat the kind of fielding that we did in this particular game.

On the bowlers bowling a good length and on Gautam Gambhir’s batting

It’s important [because] we are a side that depends a lot on a good start even when it is not about the runs; a good, sound start is what we always look for. Praveen Kumar bowled really well. He is someone who can use the new ball really well, he bowls in the right areas [and] forces the batsmen to commit mistakes. After that it was up to the spinners and the part-timers. The spinners bowled really well [though] a few overs went for runs, overall it was a good effort by the bowlers and [the job was] equally well done by the top three batsmen.

On there being pressure from home to get a win on the board

Not really. I have not been reading any newspapers [or] getting any news from India so I don’t know what exactly is going [on there]. It is always good to win games. It’s disappointing when you are quite consistent in losing games so it’s a good sign for us. We did all the [right] things in this particular game.
