Ponting picked in Boxing Day playing XI

Melbourne, Dec 24: Cricket Australia has today announced the team for the first Vodafone Test against India, which begins at the MCG on Boxing Day.
The Australian squad is:
Michael Clarke (c), Brad Haddin (vc), Ed Cowan, Ben Hilfenhaus, Mike Hussey, Nathan Lyon, Shaun Marsh, James Pattinson, Ricky Ponting, Peter Siddle, David Warner
Mitchell Starc has been named 12th man for the Test.
Australia Coach Mickey Arthur, said: “Ryan Harris and Dan Christian will stay around the group until their BBL commitments later in the week, and Shane Watson will also be with the group in Melbourne in order to build workloads and hopefully be fit for consideration for selection for upcoming Test matches.”
