Cuttack, Nov 29: Man-of-the-Series on India’s tour of the West Indies, Rohit Sharma returned to the ODI side to play a match-winning knock that has given the hosts a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.

Named Man-of-the-Match for his 72 runs, Rohit spoke about the match and duly credited Ravindra Jadeja and Vinay Kumar for their valuable contributions.

Excerpts from the post-match media interaction:

On his dismissal

The idea was to play throughout the innings and get the team to the [finish line]. [I’m] very disappointed [that] I was not able to finish the game but it’s all right now. We have won the game [and] that is more important.

On what he told Ravindra Jadeja when he came out to bat with five wickets down and 150 still needed to win

We just planned to bat [through]. [We wanted to] keep those singles ticking because we knew with the dew we could get [the] singles very easily […] He batted brilliantly. I needed support from Jadeja at that point of time; he batted brilliantly [but] unfortunately he got out [and] then Vinay Kumar came in and batted brilliantly. With dew coming in I always knew we could play shots and get whatever runs [were required] on the board easily.

On his form and whether making runs in domestic cricket had helped

Yes, actually, after my injury I [didn’t have] much cricket to play and then luckily [I got] a couple of Ranji [Trophy] games [and] did well. I was just waiting for the opportunity and I’m very glad [I came good] at the right time. We were five down for 59 so I’m very glad I was able to pull it through for the team.
