Taunton, June 26: India lost their last league game of the Natwest Women’s T20 Quadrangular tournament to England by 46 runs at County Ground here.

Opting to bat first, England were on 8 runs for the loss of two wickets at the end of the third over after Snehal Pradhan sent back Charlotte Edwards and Laura Marsh. With the openers back in the pavilion, Danielle Waytt and Claire Taylor stitched together a partnership of 42 runs to keep England in the game. Taylor went on to score a blistering 66 off 46 balls before being bowled by India skipper Jhulan Goswami.

With valuable contributions of 13 and 12 runs by Sarah Taylor and Aaran Brindle respectively, England managed to reach a total of 134 runs even as the lower order succumbed to the Indian bowling.

Indian pacers Jhulan and Pradhan claimed three wickets each, while Amita Sharma picked two to wrap up the England innings with a ball to spare.

Chasing 135 to win, the Indian batting once again failed miserably as India managed to score only 88 runs in their quota of 20 overs.  The highest score by Indian batsmen was 17 runs (scored by Neha Tanvar, Mithal Raj and Priyanka Roy).

India now play New Zealand for the third place play-off on Monday, June 27 at Aldershot.
