Slower one working well for me: Zaheer
Ahmedabad, March 23: Although he did not have much success early on, Zaheer Khan managed to finish with two wickets, including that of Michael Hussey, in the big quarter-final against Australia.
Having restricted Australia to 260 runs, India’s pace spearhead spoke to the media before the Indian run chase.
On getting a wicket in his second spell with the old ball
Well, it has been going well for me - the slower one has been working particularly well for me. [It’s] just one of those things. When things are going your way, they are going your way.
On whether it was off-putting to get a warning for running on the pitch early in the game
It was a dry wicket today, the odd ball went inside because it was a dry wicket. The umpires were also a bit cautious about the surface breaking down early. It wasn’t really putting pressure on me as such because I knew [that] I could have gone round the wicket [at] any time. And anyway it was my plan today to go round the wicket.
On the chase being prospectively difficult because of the pitch
Once the ball gets older it’s not coming on to the bat that much. [On] one side it is turning a little. If you are bowling from this end, the ball is turning a bit more. Bowling from the other end I think it’s a good batting track.
On India’s bowling performance
I think it’s a par score here. We still have to bat well. Hopefully we will keep our nerves and just work in partnerships - we should get there.
