Tiwary, like India captain MS Dhoni, is a big-hitting batsman from Jharkhand who shores up his side’s middle order. He even sports a hairdo that is a throwback to Dhoni circa 2005.

Success has come to Tiwary in fits and starts. A player with great promise, he made his Ranji Trophy debut when he was just 16. He was also a member of the squad that won the U-19 World Cup under Virat Kohli in Malaysia in 2008. In the 2009-10 Ranji Trophy season, Tiwary struck a purple patch and scored three centuries for Jharkhand.

IPL 2010 proved to be the high point in Tiwary’s career. The Jharkhand lad scored 419 runs from 16 matches at a strike-rate of 135.59, a performance that propelled Mumbai Indians to the runners-up position.

A call up into the Indian ODI side followed for the Australia series of 2010, but Tiwary couldn’t cement his place in the team in the few opportunities that came his way.
