Diminutive in stature, Amita epitomises the maxim that appearances are deceptive. She is a paceman with the ability to swing the ball both ways and is a competent batsman to boot. She made her debut for India in 2002. She was one of the successes of the 2005 World Cup with fourteen wickets to her credit. She was named vice-captain of the Indian team for the 2009 World Cup where she took nine wickets from seven games. Her unbeaten 31 took India to a winning score in the Super Six game against Australia. Sharma’s best ODI figures, 4 for 16, came against England when she led India to victory in Chennai in February 2007.
